Former NFL and CFL offensive lineman Edwin Harrison joined the Roughriders as the Offensive Line Coach on Jan. 15, 2024. 

In his first season with the Green and White, Harrison commanded a powerful unit that allowed the Riders’ offence to produce 5,019 passing yards and 1,613 along the ground. 

Primarily due to injuries, Harrison was constantly welcoming new players to the offensive line. By season’s end, the Roughriders had dressed 13 different offensive linemen and started 12. Yet, the Roughriders allowed only 35 sacks – just six fewer than the league-best total. 

Harrison worked closely with Logan Ferland, who was named the West Division’s Most Outstanding Offensive Lineman. A first-time CFL All-Star in 2024, Ferland started at three position and received playing time at four. 

Before joining the coaching ranks, Harrison was an offensive lineman with the Kansas City Chiefs (2008 and 2009) and Calgary Stampeders (2010 to 2015). For much of the time in Calgary, he was a teammate of defensive lineman Corey Mace, who is now the Roughriders’ Head Coach. 

After his playing career, Harrison accepted a teaching/coaching role at Marshall High School in a suburb of Houston. 

He returned to the CFL in 2022 for his first of two seasons as the Toronto Argonauts’ Running Backs Coach and Run Game Co-ordinator. A.J. Ouellette, now of the Roughriders, was the East’s All-Star running back in 2022 and 2023. 

Ouellette rushed for two touchdowns for the victorious Argonauts in the 2022 Grey Cup Game, played at Mosaic Stadium. That was the second year in which Harrison earned a Grey Cup ring. He also celebrated a title as a player with Calgary in 2014.
