In 2024, Kent Maugeri oversaw a unit that led the league in several statistical categories in his third season as the Special Teams Co-ordinator – and his 10th as a member of the Roughriders’ coaching staff.

Brett Lauther had an exceptional season in 2024, kicking 53 field goals (third-best in the league) and finishing with 201 points. That was just the sixth 200-plus-points season in Roughriders history.

As well, Mario Alford was second in the league in kickoff return average (23.9 yards). One of his returns was for a 101-yard touchdown.

Under Maugeri’s leadership, the Roughriders boasted four of the league’s top 10 special teams tacklers: A.J. Allen (the CFL’s co-leader, with 22), Rolan Milligan Jr. (20), Justin Herdman-Reed (16) and Adam Auclair (15).

With Maugeri as the co-ordinator in 2023, two of the Roughriders’ special teams players – Alford (returner) and Adam Korsak (punter) — were named West All-Stars.

Alford was the league’s Most Outstanding Special Teams player in 2022, a year in which Maugeri took over the special teams.

Maugeri joined the Club as a Quality Control Coach in 2016. He was the Running Backs Coach from 2017 to 2019 before moving over to special teams (under Head Coach/Co-ordinator Craig Dickenson) in 2020. Maugeri was named the Special Teams Co-ordinator on Jan. 27, 2022.
