2024: Bane Jr. suited up for 14 games, catching 49 passes for 551 yards and a career high five touchdowns. Bane Jr. caught three touchdown passes in a season-opening, 29-21 victory over the host Edmonton Elks on June 8. He also earned a share of the Roughriders’ record for touchdown receptions in a game. That feat has been accomplished 19 times, dating back to 1958 … eight catches for 90 yards and one TD, Aug. 8 at Ottawa … 12-yard TD reception, Sept. 1 vs. Winnipeg … finished season with 49 receptions for 581 yards and four TDs in 14 games.
2023: Bane Jr. enjoyed a breakout season in 2023, catching 93 passes — the eighth-best total in franchise history — for 1,104 yards and four touchdowns. Included were back-to-back 10-catch games, along with a two-TD performance against the visiting Edmonton Elks on Sept. 15.
PRO: With the Calgary Stampeders in 2022, Bane Jr. caught 21 passes for 288 yards and one touchdown. On special teams, the speedster logged nine punt returns for 80 yards and seven kickoff returns for 156 yards.In 2021, he saw action in four games, recording three catches for 100 yards and one touchdown. Bane also contributed on special teams, returning 16 punts for 182 yards and seven kickoffs for 138 yards. He initially signed with the Stampeders in 2020.
COLLEGE: Bane Jr. played four collegiate seasons (2015-18) at Northwest Missouri State. He logged 212 catches for 3,363 yards and 31 touchdowns over 48 games. As a Bearcat, he contributed on special teams, returning 58 kickoffs for 1,286 yards and 74 punts for 878 yards and two touchdowns. He earned Second-Team All-MIAA honours as a receiver in all four seasons in addition to being named the MIAA Freshman of the Year and First-Team All-MIAA kickoff/punt returner in 2015.
FAST FACT: His late father, Shawn Bane Sr., was a star running back at Riverview High School in Sarasota, Fla. As a sophomore, he rushed for 1,412 yards. Bane Sr. later gained 1,171 yards along the ground as a freshman at California-based Long Beach City College before returning home to Florida to focus on spending time with Shawn Jr. and his sister.
