Bob Walker, a 1989 inductee into the SaskTel Plaza of Honour, was born 114 years ago today — on June 6, 1911 — in Armour, S.D.

He debuted as a lineman with the Roughriders in 1934 and helped the team reach the Grey Cup game.

Walker remained with the Roughriders through the 1939 season and returned to the team in 1941 for one more year.

One of the first Roughriders to be named an All-Star, he made the West’s select squad in 1937 and 1938.

Walker remained in Regina after his playing career and became a Canadian citizen.

He was only 50 years old when he passed away on Dec. 30, 1961.
