Saskatchewan Roughrider left guard Brendon LaBatte has been selected as the West Nominee for the 2013 Most Outstanding Offensive Lineman award.
LaBatte just completed his sixth CFL season and second with the Riders after signing with the team during the 2012 offseason. The University of Regina product played all 18 regular season games at left guard, paving the way as the team averaged over 128 rush yards per game.
This is LaBatte’s first time being named a division finalist after previously being selected a team nominee three times. The 27-year-old recently received his fifth consecutive Division All-Star nomination after previously being selected to the West Division in 2012 and the East Division team in 2011, 2010 and 2009 while with the Winnipeg Blue Bombers. He was named a CFL All-Star in 2011.
The East and West Player Award winners were selected by 77 voters, including members of the Football Reporters of Canada (FRC) and CFL head coaches.
Voters were asked to select players from their local CFL division who, through on-field performance excellence, best represent the awards’ title – Most Outstanding Player, Most Outstanding Canadian Player, Most Outstanding Defensive Player, Most Outstanding Offensive Lineman, Most Outstanding Rookie and Most Outstanding Special Teams Player.
The 2013 Gibson’s Finest CFL Player Awards will be handed out on Thursday, November 21 at Conexus Arts Centre in Regina.
