Training Camp Report Day Twelve

Dan Plaster

It’s almost over and the first real action of the season is on the horizon.  When the Riders turned the final corner of training camp and the preparation began for Saturday’s game against Edmonton, the emotion and energy went up a couple of notches.

There were two on-field sessions on day twelve with the first being a walk-through that finished with game opening prep and call-outs. The opening prep went through the pre-game portion of Saturday’s match-up in Fort McMurray emulating everything from what part of the field they will enter to the opening ceremonies.

Call-outs are pretty basic, players stand on the sideline and the coaches yell out, “first team punt” or “second team kickoff”. With so many players and units, it’s something that will be addressed many more times before kickoff Saturday night. For the coaches, it’s a great tool to see who remains sharp, and keep personnel penalties to a minimum (which happen a lot in pre-season football). For players, they have to keep sharp, because if they miss even a single snap of football, it could be the defining moment whether they make the team or not.

Not much more to say from twelve days of Saskatchewan Roughriders Training Camp 2015, I will get you ready for the game against the Eskimos in tomorrow’s pre-game prep…then finally football!!

Instagram of the day:

“The good thing about it is Corey [Chamblin] has his hand in the defence, he’s a guru. Its amazing listening and learning from how he does such things. With him, Coach Missick and Coach Quick, they make quite the trio and like I said, we are doing some funky things back there and it’s going to be exciting.”
Riders veteran defensive back, Paul Woldu on the Rider defence

“I’m excited, we put all of the work in. It’s been pretty mentally exhausting pretty physically exhausting but it’s now time to let that all out and go play the game.”
Rider rookie receiver, Nic Demski on being ready for the first preseason game Saturday

“It’s a part of removing the stressors. I don’t want the guys to see anything new. They have enough stress in terms of playing the game, what quarter they go in, and being in a new environment. I want to make the guys as comfortable as possible so they can just worry about playing football.”
