Prior to kick-off, the field looked more like November 19th, not June 19th. A pregame thunderstorm and downpour of hail buried the Mosaic Stadium turf and delayed the kick-off of the final preseason game and for both the Saskatchewan Roughriders and the Calgary Stampeders.
After a slow start, both offences got going in the second half as the Riders took a 19-13 lead into the break. The Riders scored again in the fourth quarter when Kevin Glenn hit Alex Carroll in the back of the end zone to take the 26-16 lead into the final frame.
Drew Tate led the Stampeders to three touchdown drives, while the Riders could only manage a field goal and in the end, were on the wrong side of the 37-29 Calgary victory.
There are now some tough decisions to be made for the Riders, and the rest of the CFL front offices with the final cut downs needed to be made by midnight tomorrow night.
The Riders will hit the field for the season opener next Saturday night hosting the Winnipeg Blue Bombers. Kick-off is 6pm at Mosaic Stadium, head to riderville.com for ticket information.
