For the first time this season, the Saskatchewan Roughriders were looking for back to back wins. It would be a difficult task heading into Investors Group Field in Winnipeg for the Labour Day rematch.
It was the Riders defence that had their best half of the season in the first half, forcing five Bomber turnovers and four sacks. All the Riders could muster was a short Rob Bagg touchdown catch, which was good enough for the 7-3 lead after the first half.
The Bombers tied the game with four points off the foot of Liam Hajrullahu, and then took the lead when Matt Nichols threw his first touchdown as a Winnipeg Blue Bomber connecting with Julian Feoli-Gudino for the long score and the 14-7 at the end of three.
The mistakes of the past came back to bite the Riders in the fourth quarter, Brett Smith scrambled, was hit from behind the ball went into the hand of Khalil Bass, he went the other way for the touchdown and the 21-7 lead.
The Rider offence couldn’t muster anything over the final nine minutes, and the Bombers cruised to the 22-7 victory.
The Riders will look to bounce back next Saturday, September 19th at Mosaic Stadium. Henry Burria and the Ottawa REDBLACKS will pay a visit with the 7pm kickoff.
