A beautiful Saskatchewan fall afternoon welcomed the Roughriders and their 30-thousand fans to Mosaic Stadium. Jonathan Crompton and the Montreal Alouettes were looking for the win to push their record back up to the .500 mark.
The game started off with a bang As Macho Harris intercepted Jonathan Crompton on the first Montreal drive and took it to the Als 38 yard line. The next play, Kevin Glenn hit Rob Bagg and the CFL veteran receiver picked up the touchdown in his 100th career game
The rest of the first half, the Rider defence took over including Harris’s second interception of the game and the lead was extended to 15-1 heading into the locker room.
The Rider offence woke up in the third quarter and they marched down the field on their first drive, only to see it snuffed out by an Alouette pick in the end zone.
Macho Harris struck with his third interception of the game late in the 3rd quarter and took it to the house for the touchdown, and after the convert, the Riders had the 22-2 lead. That pick, tied a Rider team record for interceptions in a single game with three.
After the Als added a field goal to cut it to 22-5, the Riders went 85 yards on 10 plays, led by Jerome Messam’s 44 yards on the ground to take the commanding 30-5 lead.
The Alouettes added a couple of insignificant scores and Riders cruised to a well deserved 33-21 victory.
The Green and White will head on the road this week, paying their second visit to Vancouver to face the B.C. Lions on Saturday night. It’s a 5:00pm kick off.
