THE LOWDOWN: The Roughriders and Lions are to meet for the first time this season Saturday. Saskatchewan is coming off a 38-27 victory over the visiting Toronto Argonauts last Saturday. The Lions were beaten 37-26 by the host Edmonton Eskimos on July 28 … The Lions have won six straight regular-season games against Saskatchewan. The Roughriders’ most-recent regular-season victory over B.C. occurred Aug. 24, 2014, when Saskatchewan posted a 20-16 decision on the road … The Lions beat the visiting Roughriders 42-10 in a pre-season contest June 16.
THE RIDERS’ ROSTER: Roughriders quarterback Kevin Glenn has another passing milestone in his sights. The 17-year CFL veteran, who two weeks ago became just the seventh quarterback in league history to surpass 50,000 career passing yards, now is only 108 yards behind Ron Lancaster for sixth place on the league’s all-time passing list … Roughriders receivers Duron Carter (131 yards) and Bakari Grant (115) both went over 100 yards receiving in the victory over the Argos. It was the first time since Aug. 18, 2011, that two Saskatchewan pass-catchers broke the century mark in the same game. Nearly six years ago, Chris Getzlaf (123 yards) and Efrem Hill (107) both exceeded 100 yards for the Roughriders in their 24-18 loss to the host Argos … Cameron Marshall starts again at tailback for the Roughriders. Marshall rushed for 110 yards against Toronto but, perhaps more importantly, continued his stellar pass-blocking for Glenn … Saskatchewan’s offensive line took some heat after a 27-10 loss July 22 to the Calgary Stampeders, who had five first-half sacks. Against Toronto, the Roughriders’ O-line helped Marshall go over 100 yards rushing for the first time this season and limited the Argos to just two sacks. Saskatchewan’s starting five remains intact Saturday … The Roughriders’ defensive line turned in a stellar effort against Toronto, sacking Ricky Ray five times. Willie Jefferson continues to lead the way for Saskatchewan this season; he entered Week 7 tied for the league lead with 12 quarterback pressures … Crezdon Butler makes his second straight start at strong-side linebacker for the Roughriders. The former NFL defensive back started at corner against Calgary and then moved to SAM for the Toronto game — and he handled the move with aplomb … Sam Eguavoen gets the start at weak-side linebacker in place of Erick Dargan, who moves to backup safety … Quinn van Gylswyk is to make his 2017 regular-season debut as the Roughriders’ kicker Saturday. The CFL sophomore replaces Tyler Crapigna, who pulled a leg muscle during the game against Toronto. Crapigna has been placed on Saskatchewan’s six-game injured list … Defensive lineman Ese Mrabure, who missed the Roughriders’ past two games due to injury, comes off the six-game injured list. He takes the roster spot of backup fullback Albert Awachie … Saskatchewan special-teams ace Glenn Love was put on the six-game injured list after getting hurt against Toronto. His roster spot goes this week to receiver Christion Jones, who has been on the practice roster.
