THE LOWDOWN: The Bombers and Roughriders are set for their second regular-season meeting of 2017 at Mosaic Stadium. The Bombers prevailed 43-40 in double overtime when the clubs played the first regular-season game at the new stadium on July 1 … The final game of the teams’ three-game season series is slated for Sept. 9 at Winnipeg’s Investors Group Field … The clubs played to a 25-25 tie when they met in a pre-season game June 10 at Mosaic Stadium … The Bombers won the 2016 Classic 28-25, thanks to a last-play field goal by Justin Medlock. That snapped a string of 11 straight Saskatchewan wins in the annual grudge match.
THE RIDERS’ ROSTER: Quarterback Kevin Glenn is to make his first start in the Labour Day Classic since Aug. 31, 2008 — when he played for the Bombers. Glenn was 28-for-42 passing for 269 yards with two interceptions that day as Winnipeg lost 19-6 to the Riders … Glenn also started the Classic for the Bombers from 2004 through ’07, winning the ’04 game and losing the other three. In 2007, he was 27-for-36 passing for 393 yards with three TDs, but Winnipeg lost 31-26 on Kerry Joseph’s touchdown on a quarterback draw with six seconds left in regulation time … Cameron Marshall starts again at tailback for the Roughriders. He had 11 touches for 105 yards (seven carries for 44 yards, four receptions for 61 yards) in Saskatchewan’s 54-31 victory over the Edmonton Eskimos on Aug. 25, marking the sixth time in eight games this season that he exceeded 100 combined yards … Saskatchewan’s offensive line returns intact, with Brendon LaBatte at centre, Derek Dennis and Peter Dyakowski at guard, and Bruce Campbell and Thaddeus Coleman at tackle … The starting receivers also remain the same, with Canadians Rob Bagg and Nic Demski joining internationals Duron Carter, Bakari Grant and Naaman Roosevelt. There’s a change among the backups, though, as Antwane Grant comes on to the roster to replace Christion Jones (shoulder). It’s Grant’s third game on the Roughriders’ roster this season; he also dressed for games against the Hamilton Tiger-Cats (July 8) and Calgary Stampeders (July 22) … With Jones out, expect Demski and Carter to handle the punt-returning duties … The Roughriders’ defensive line has been impressive in the team’s past two games — and that group stays the same this week. Ends Willie Jefferson and A.C. Leonard, tackles Eddie Steele and Nick James and backups Tobi Antigha, Makana Henry, Antonio Longino and Ese Mrabure have combined to record six sacks and 17 quarterback pressures in the Roughriders’ past two outings … The linebacking crew that faced the Eskimos — Erick Dargan at strong-side, Sam Eguavoen at weak-side and Henoc Muamba in the middle — will take on the Bombers … Saskatchewan’s defensive backs have recorded three interception returns for touchdowns in the past two games, with Ed Gainey, Jovon Johnson and Kacy Rodgers II turning the trick. Crezdon Butler and Mike Edem join that trio in the starting lineup once again … The Grant-for-Jones move is the only change the Roughriders are making to their roster. That’s the fewest changes they’ve made for a game since opening the regular season.
