Destination: Riderville, B.C.
Terry Fox Plaza will be the site of a joint Saskatchewan Roughriders-B.C. Lions tailgate party that is to take place outside BC Place Stadium before Saturday’s CFL game.
The social event is to begin at 11 a.m., six hours before kickoff.
“We’re excited to unite Rider Nation, this time in Vancouver, as we tailgate alongside the B.C. Lions,” said Eva Fletcher, the Roughriders’ Event Co-ordinator.
“There will be lots of fun and games, food, drinks and prizes of all kinds, as we take part in some fan-on-fan rivalries with our B.C. frienemies.”
The guest of honour will be former Roughriders and Lions kicker Paul McCallum — a 2022 inductee into the Canadian Football Hall of Fame.
Musical entertainment will be provided by Regina-based FOGDOG, a proudly Saskatchewan cover band and one that is much-loved among Rider Nation.
And the cost?
“Absolutely free,” Fletcher said.
Now that the pandemic is in the rear-view mirror, the 2023 Riderville Tour has returned.
The season’s first stop was in Edmonton for the June 11 regular-season opener, in which the Roughriders defeated the Elks 17-13.
After Saturday’s event in Vancouver, the Riderville Tour will visit Winnipeg (Sept. 9) and Ottawa (Sept. 22).
“We really wanted to engage our fans who don’t live here in Saskatchewan anymore, or those who maybe have never lived here, and give them that authentic Rider experience,” Fletcher said.
“We know we have a ton of fans all across the country and we want to give something back to them. This is a really fun way to do it.
“We’re really excited about it and we hope a lot of people come out and have a great time, and get ready to cheer on our guys in green.”
