The Regina Thunder and Saskatoon Hilltops both sport 2-0 records after posting Prairie Football Conference victories on Sunday.
Regina defeated the host Edmonton Huskies 53-14 on the strength of five touchdown passes from Carter Moberg.
Saskatoon, meanwhile, blanked the host Winnipeg Rifles 49-0.
In Edmonton, Moberg completed 21 of 34 passes for 367 yards.
Ben Walz caught six passes for 100 yards and two TDs. Isaiah Woodley added five receptions for 126 yards and one score.
Sadik Sadik and Ryland Leichert also had touchdown receptions for the Thunder.
Leichert (19 carries for 126 yards) and Sadik (six rushes for 78 yards) also scored along the ground.
Kenten Effa had two of the Thunder’s three sacks to go with a tackle for a loss.
Thunder linebacker Stephen Smith had six tackles, one sack, one tackle for a loss and blocked kick.
Adam King added an interception for Regina.
Next up for the Thunder is Sunday’s home opener against Winnipeg (1 p.m., Leibel Field).
Three members of the Thunder are on the Roughriders’ practice roster: Woodley, defensive lineman Max Parkinson and offensive lineman Riley Schick.
In Winnipeg this past weekend, Trey Reider threw touchdown passes to Datiel Fountaine and Noah Flaman for the Hilltops, who got 194 rushing yards from Bosten Davidsen.
The Hilltops also got touchdowns from Dalton Urban (on an interception return) and Carter Wingert (fumble recovery).
Wade Keating and Denym Mantyka also had interceptions for Saskatoon. Riece Kack had two of the team’s five sacks. Johnathon Stevens added six tackles, one sack and two tackles for a loss.
Teijon Abel-Douglas went 5-for-5 on field-goal attempts for Saskatoon, which is to play host to the Calgary Colts on Sunday (1 p.m., SMF Field).
