The Saskatchewan Roughriders are no longer the CFL’s last unbeaten team.
The Calgary Stampeders’ 24-10 victory at Mosaic Stadium on Saturday afternoon left both sides with 4-1 records.
“We got whupped,” Roughriders Head Coach Corey Mace said. “That’s what it is.
“That’s a good football team that we played today.”
Saturday’s game began at 2 p.m., as scheduled, following a postponement. The game was originally scheduled for Friday night, only to be delayed by unacceptably high air-quality levels.
Both teams excelled through the air once the game did commence.
Vernon Adams Jr. led the Stampeders’ attack with 424 passing yards — including 295 by halftime — and three touchdowns.
Saskatchewan’s Trevor Harris countered by going 36-for-44 for 425 yards and one major.
“Credit to them,” Harris said of the Stampeders. “They’ve got a good defence and they’re a good football team, but so are we. We’ll bounce back.”
That will be the objective leading up to next Saturday’s road game against the B.C. Lions.
“Our response is going to be to look in the mirror and make sure we get better as a football team in all phases and make sure we come back stronger, because I don’t think there has been an undefeated team,” Harris said.
“There’s no panic button here. There’s a button to look in the mirror hard to make sure we’re doing everything we can to become the best team that we can be.”
Calgary led 17-3 at halftime on the strength of Adams Jr.’s touchdown passes to Damien Alford (21 yards) and Erik Brooks (14).
Rene Paredes converted both majors and added a 16-yard field goal.
Brett Lauther opened the scoring with a 47-yard field goal.
Saskatchewan began the third quarter with a seven-play, 73-yard touchdown march that was punctuated by Harris’s 18-yard scoring pass to Joe Robustelli.
It was the first CFL touchdown for Robustelli, who caught 11 passes for 191 yards.
Calgary quickly countered with an 81-yard scoring bomb from Adams Jr. to Alford, who finished with six catches for 156 yards.
“We created some holes in our defence,” Roughriders linebacker A.J. Allen said. “We lacked attention to detail.
“I’ll speak for myself. I try to do too much sometimes. That’s on me to just calm it down, especially when they’re driving the ball.
“We’ve got to play football like we know we can.”
TREVOR’S TALLIES
Harris leapfrogged Tom Clements and claimed 11th place on the CFL’s All-Time completions list. Clements registered 2,808 completions. Harris finished Saturday’s game with 2,843. Doug Flutie (2,975) is 10th All-Time.
As well, Harris tied Sam Etcheverry for 17th All-Time in touchdown passes (186). Ex-Roughrider Tom Burgess is 16th with 190.
With 36 completions, Harris finished in a four-way tie for the fifth-most in Roughriders history.
Harris sported his highest passing-yardage total (425) as a Roughrider.
Additionally, Harris tied a CFL record by registering a completion percentage of 70-plus for the eighth consecutive game.
He originally set the record in a stretch that included the 2018 and 2019 seasons. The Hamilton Tiger-Cats’ Dane Evans tied the record in 2019.

Robustelli’s receiving yardage total (191) was the most by a Roughrider since Oct. 5, 2019, when Shaq Evans hit 193 against the visiting Winnipeg Blue Bombers.
The 191 yards placed Robustelli in a five-way tie for the Roughriders’ 25th-best single-game total.
With 11 receptions, Robustelli posted the Roughriders’ 66th double-digit total.
On Saturday, he became the 602nd player to score at least one regular-season touchdown for the Roughriders. He scored the 3,732nd major in team history.
Robustelli also became the first player this season to score a touchdown against Calgary before the fourth quarter.
GRAND TOTAL
Lauther’s first-quarter field goal gave him an even 1,000 points as a Roughrider.
He is third on the team’s career scoring list, behind Dave Ridgway (2,374 points) and Paul McCallum (1,615).
As well, Lauther moved past ex-Stampeder Larry Robinson into 25th on the CFL’s All-Time scoring list.
Lauther has 1,032 career points, two more than Robinson. Ex-Roughrider Luca Congi is 24th with 1,050 points.
EXTRA POINTS
• Allen and C.J. Reavis both recorded their second CFL interceptions. Both of Allen’s picks have been on the opposition’s first pass of the game. Reavis added a fumble recovery on Saturday.
• Shane Ray notched his first sack as a Roughrider. D’Sean Mimbs registered his first CFL reception.
