The “Back 40 Bash” included quite a back 30 for Trevor Harris.
The Saskatchewan Roughriders’ starting quarterback completed 27 of 30 passes for 327 yards over the final 30 minutes of Saturday’s CFL game against the visiting Calgary Stampeders.
Harris established a Roughriders record for completions in one half.
He also joined an exclusive fraternity of Saskatchewan quarterbacks to throw for 300-plus yards before or after halftime.
First, the record — which was set during a game that was billed as “Back 40 Bash: Rooted in the West.”
Until Calgary won 24-10 on Saturday, a Roughrider had not completed more than 25 passes in a half. Harris now occupies the peak podium placing:

First- and second-half statistical breakdowns are not extant for the two games in which Ron Lancaster threw for 400-plus yards.
Nov. 11, 1963: The Little General was 26-for-48 for 492 yards in a playoff game against the visiting Stampeders.
Oct. 28, 1973: Lancaster completed 21 of 30 passes for 403 yards against the Hamilton Tiger-Cats at Taylor Field. If he did exceed 300 yards in one half, it would have been in the latter portion of the game. No. 23 threw for 234 yards in the fourth quarter, on the strength of bombs to Bobby Thompson (96 yards) and Bob Pearce (80). Oddity: Neither long-gainer was for six points. Both explosive plays set up a short touchdown run by Terry Bulych.

The latter game was somewhat reminiscent of the 1993 Roughriders/Stampeders classic that included a CFL-record 1,093 passing yards.
On Saturday, Calgary’s Vernon Adams Jr. threw for 295 yards in the first half. Harris answered with 327 over the final 30 minutes.
Compare that to Oct. 23, 1993, when Austin amassed 312 of his 546 passing yards in the first half.
Calgary’s Doug Flutie piled up 377 of his 547 aerial yards in the second half.
Saskatchewan led 35-10 after 30 minutes and 42-24 after three quarters. Calgary rallied to create a 45-45 tie with 1:58 left.
Dave Ridgway settled matters by kicking a 34-yard field goal with one second remaining, giving Saskatchewan a 48-45 victory on a Saturday afternoon at Taylor Field.
(Later that day, Joe Carter belted a World Series-winning home run for the Toronto Blue Jays.)
The Oct. 21, 1993 game is also among nine contests in Roughriders history that have included duelling 400-yard passers.
